2020 Annual Conference Plans

03/19/2020

The MSHA Executive Board has been deliberating for weeks on your behalf. We have decided to move the continuing education conference scheduled for April 6-8 at the Beau to our first ever ONLINE CONFERENCE. Most of the same quality speakers, some fun virtual activities, and a live bash scheduled at an easily accessed location once the COVID-19 threat has passed will be available. This bash, part of your conference fee, will be a party when COVID-19 is no longer a consideration.

Watch your emails. Keep networking with MSHA professionals. Join a committee. Watch for advocacy opportunities. Watch our MSHA web site for details about the transition to our MSHA Virtual Conference 2020!

Your leaders are committed to educate, engage, and empower in the safest way possible.

2020 MSHA Conference – Frequently Asked Questions

Updated 3/19/20

Please note that this FAQ document will be updated as the Conference Committee obtains new information.

Q: Will MSHA Cancel The 2020 Conference Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

A: Due to circumstances beyond our control, including advisories from the CDC and White House to avoid gatherings of 10 or more as well as the temporary closing of our 2020 Conference venue, it became necessary for the MSHA Executive Board to consider alternatives to hosting the upcoming conference on April 6th – 8th at the Beau Rivage.

After much deliberation, the Board voted to transition our 2020 MSHA Conference activities to an online platform.

We remain hopeful and confident this format will allow constituents safe and reliable access to our valuable presenter content while preserving a tangible return on the investments made by our attendees, their employers, and our presenters.  We expect to easily acquire ASHA approval to present through this alternative content platform.  However, please bear with us as we finalize presenter participation and collect presentation content as this will take some additional time.

We will notify registrants when content is available for viewing and provide specifics on how to participate.  We thank you for your understanding during this time of unpredictability and we wish you the very best as we work diligently to provide you the very best service possible.

Q: Will the Online Conference Agenda be the Same as the Face-to-Face Agenda?

A: Numerous 2020 Conference speakers were not going to be able to physically travel to Biloxi April 6th – 8th. However, many expressed willingness to present virtually if that were an option. Our conference chairs are working diligently to determine which of our committed 2020 speakers can commit to the change to an online format. While we cannot promise there will not be any changes to the current agenda, we are working hard to ensure a comparable variety and quality of sessions. We will get an updated session list and agenda to you as soon as possible!

Q: Will I still be able to earn 1.6 ASHA CEUs through the Online Conference?

A: Yes! We are committed to providing registrants the same opportunity to earn 1.6 CEUs plus more.

Q: How Will MSHA Handle 2020 Conference Cancellation Requests?

A: We truly hope that you will participate in our first-ever MSHA Online Conference! If you are currently registered, your registration will automatically transfer to the online conference. No need to cancel!

If you do choose to cancel, please note that the cancellation of your registration will immediately eliminate your access to the 2020 MSHA Online Conference. All cancellation requests are final.

All requests for attendee registration cancellations should be sent via email to Ricki Garrett at executive.director@mshausa.org. Please be patient with us as we process the high volume of these requests.

**If you have made hotel reservations at the Beau Rivage - the hotel rooms have already been canceled you will receive the refund on your credit card.

**If you made a hotel reservation at a separate hotel, you will be responsible for canceling those. Please contact your hotel as soon as possible.

Q: Can I get a refund for my 2020 MSHA Conference registration?

A: We highly encourage that you allow your registration fee to transfer to the upcoming online conference. As stated above, you will have access to the same quality and quantity of CE content, as well as some exciting new virtual activities!

However, as previously stated, the Board did vote to extend the deadline to receive a full refund on canceled registrations to March 22, 2020. Any cancellations made past this date will not be entitled to a refund of any amount.

Please keep in mind that MSHA is charged a processing fee for all transactions, including refunds. If you must cancel your registration, please consider donating $25.00 to MSHA to help us cover the processing fee. We rely heavily on the income from conference to pay for services valued by our members such as securing a lobbyist to monitor and advocate for legislative issues impacting professionals and our clients (like the $6000 salary supplement for SLPs in schools); our MSHA website which stays updated with professional resources and job postings; and our status as an ASHA CE provider.
